Qualified at Natal University in 1979 and has seven years of hospital and 33 years of general practice experience. He offers a wide range of medical services at his practices in Tongaat, Umhlanga Rocks and Phoenix.
Dr. Deena Govender’s illustrious medical career has been marked by a series of impactful professional milestones. Following his internship at King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban in 1980, he served as a dedicated Medical Officer at Baragwanath and Livingstone Hospitals for a commendable six-year period. In 1987, Dr. Govender transitioned into the role of a General Practitioner in Tongaat, where he has been providing expert medical care for over three decades.
In 2003, he took a significant step by establishing the Umhlanga Sports & Travel Clinic, showcasing his commitment to specialized healthcare. This venture was followed by his integration into Netcare Umhlanga Medical Practitioners in April 2008, reflecting his continuous pursuit of professional excellence and collaborative healthcare practices.
Currently, Dr. Govender extends his medical expertise across multiple practices, strategically located in Umhlanga Rocks, Phoenix, and Tongaat. This diverse presence underlines his dedication to making quality healthcare accessible to a broader community, showcasing a holistic and patient-centric approach throughout his distinguished career.

Over the years
Dr. Deena Govender is a highly qualified and accomplished professional with a rich academic background in the field of medicine. He earned his MBChB from the University of Natal in 1979, laying the foundation for his medical career.
In 1998, Dr. Govender furthered his expertise by obtaining an MMED.SCL. in Sports Medicine from the same institution. Committed to expanding his knowledge, he completed a Travel Medicine Course at Wits in 2002. Dr. Govender’s dedication to aviation medicine is evident through his accreditation as a SENIOR DAME (Aviation Medical Examiner) by the CAA SA in 2007.
In 2009, he earned a Diploma in Occupational Health from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Continuing to diversify his skill set, Dr. Govender completed a Basic Underwater Medicine Course at the University of Stellenbosch in 2010. His extensive education and specialized training showcase his commitment to providing comprehensive medical care across various domains.
